Dr. Felix Dellinger will present some concept of discrete differential geometry and how they can be used in geometry processing. The idea is to treat a mesh not just as a discretization of a shape but as a geometric object with its own intrinsic structure. Just as classical differential geometry develops theories for smooth surface parametrizations, a discrete counterpart can be formulated for meshes. This perspective can be a powerful tool in geometry processing: on one hand, it enables the generation of visually or structurally optimized meshes particularly relevant in architectural geometry; on the other, it allows us to design shapes with specific properties by imposing only local constraints on the mesh. For instance, a geodesic and orthogonal mesh naturally defines a developable surface.

Felix Dellinger博士,维也纳科技大学离散数学与几何研究所应用数学系助理研究员。他于 2019 年、2024 年先后在该校取得硕士、博士学位,合作导师为Helmut Pottmann, Christian Müller 和Johannes Wallner教授。主要研究方向涵盖离散微分几何、建筑几何、几何处理、计算设计与制造等领域,相关学术成果发表于ACM Transactions on Graphics、Journal of Geometry and Physics, Discrete and Computational Geometry, Computers & Graphics等国际知名期刊。
